Machu Picchu, the ‘lost city’ of the Incas and where the journey reaches its climax Machu Picchu, the ‘lost city’ of the Incas and where the journey reaches its climax

To mark its first overseas challenge event in aid of oral health charity Dentaid, Denplan has chosen to trek The Inca Trail in Peru. Taking place from 24 May-2 June 2008, the trip will be made up of Denplan members and employees, all excited by the prospect of the journey ahead of them. The Inca Trail is undoubtedly one of the most spellbinding treks in the world. Its natural beauty, varied environment, ancient history and mysterious beginnings make it a popular choice for those who are looking for an adventure. The trail combines Inca ruins, mountain scenery, lush cloud forest and rich tropical jungle, making it an awe-inspiring journey. The 10-day trip will involve acclimatising to the high altitude, before beginning the four-day trek to the group’s ultimate destination, Machu Picchu, the ‘lost city’ of the Incas. Participants are asked to raise £2,500 for the trip, at least £1,000 of which will go towards Dentaid’s work. The rest of the money covers the cost of expenses such as the flights, taxes, Inca Trail passes, accommodation and food etc. Dentaid will be there every step of the way supporting the trekkers and providing them with fundraising tips and ideas to meet their target. Money raised will go towards the ‘Denplan raising a million for Dentaid’ campaign, enabling Dentaid to continue to empower and support millions of people within the developing world who, without help, would continue to suffer the agonising pain of tooth decay and disease with no hope of relief. ‘The money we receive provides vital funding for Dentaid’s new initiatives in oral health promotion, training and advocacy to help the developing world improve oral health services and ensure wider access to oral health education and preventative measures such as fluoride toothpaste,’ said Jenni Phillips, partnership coordinator. For further information on the trek contact Jenni on 01794 325140 or at dentaid@denplan.co.uk.
