Colgate in partnership with the Oral Dental Research Trust (ODRT) has announced the second round of winners of the 2005 PCD Research Awards for research conducted by Professionals Complementary to Dentistry (PCD) at the 2005 Annual Meeting of the British Dental Association. A luncheon was held to celebrate the success of the recipients who each received an award of £2,500 to support clinical research particularly in the field of preventative care. The awards were presented by Professor Nairn Wilson, chairman and acting director of the ODRT, who said, ‘The Colgate PCD Research Awards in partnership with the ODRT are becoming increasingly recognised as an important forward looking initiative in helping to build and strengthen the academic base of the dental team. It is a great pleasure to encourage PCDs to embark on novel research of immediate clinical relevance.’ The recipients were Mrs Jeanette Mooney (dental therapist, paediatric department, Manchester University Dental Hospital), Mrs Margaret Ross (senior lecturer for PCDs at Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute), Ms Alison Lowe (dental hygienist, department of orthodontics, Cardiff Dental Hospital) and Ms Wenda Thomas (dental hygienist, department of public & child dental health, Dublin Dental Hospital). Jeanette Mooney and Margaret Ross were present at the BDA conference to receive their awards.
