This year’s Showcase is set to be the biggest yet This year’s Showcase is set to be the biggest yet

With nearly 350 stands in over 17,000m2 of hall space, the 2007 Dental Showcase at Birmingham's NEC is set to smash all records.

Speaking exclusively to Dentistry, BDTA executive director Tony Reed said: ‘Put simply, this will be the best attended Dental Showcase ever.' International companies and others new to the dental arena have been attracted to the event, increasing stand figures to well over 300.

There are many exciting launches at the show. ‘A Touch of Magic' is the theme being used to promote this year's event, and delegates should prepare to be amazed by some of the magic tricks and illusions from Alan Hudson, the internationally famous magician who will be making an appearance on the BDTA stand.

Also returning in 2007 is the popular ‘instrument amnesty'. Introduced in 2005 in conjunction with the international oral health charity Dentaid, the original amnesty was a huge success and hundreds of people brought their surplus instruments to the show for Dentaid.

Thanks to this fantastic boost to stock levels, in the last two years alone Dentaid has been able to supply hundreds of instrument kits to charitable projects all over the world. However, an unprecedented level of demand has once again exhausted Dentaid's stock of instruments, not helped as you may have seen in the press by a burglary at Dentaid's premises when quite a number were stolen, presumably for their scrap value. Therefore, the call for surplus instruments is repeated.

The two organisations are appealing to all members of the team planning to visit the Dental Showcase to root through their cupboards and bring along any surplus instruments no longer required. All functioning instruments will be welcome, but Dentaid is currently particularly short of:
• Extraction forceps
• Elevators
• Mirrors
• Scalpel handles and blades
• Syringes
• Excavators (large).
