The BADT scientific meeting

BADT's (British Association of Dental Therapists') scientific meeting and AGM (annual general meeting) is in the city of Manchester on 26 and 27 September.

We move conference each year as we are proud to be a national association and our aim is to reach out to all therapists nationwide.

The conferences always boast a great trade hall, last year we had a record number at Epsom racecourse, we hope to meet that number again this year as the Hilton Deansgate is a beautiful hotel with fantastic facilities.

Members, trade and speakers will come together on Friday night to enjoy the fantastic presidential gala dinner with a live band.

This year the theme is how much BADT has accomplished over the years, and we shall celebrate the achievements of our past presidents.

As a change, we will be starting later than usual on Friday, at 10:30, allowing delegates time to arrive that morning rather than the night before, saving on the cost of a night in a hotel.

And we are running two full days of lectures rather than a day and a half, giving more CPD (continuous professional development).

We have some wonderful speakers and, acting on feedback, we are going back to the basics of dental therapy; restoration of both dentitions, dental materials and working methods.

Professor Burke will speak on a ‘new world’ without amalgam, Mhari Coxon on caring for the ageing generation, Jannette Mooney, a therapist who holds a PhD, Dr Joe Ingham from Dental Protection on direct access one year on, Laura Woosey another therapist presenting with the well know seditionist Dr Richard Charon, Christine Macleavy on anxiety management and Dr Adam Noble on recent implant news.

And finally the renowned Dr Foti Panagakos is coming from the USA to talk on behalf of Colgate.

We are also thrilled to have secured the celebrated Dr Jason Smithson, who will lecture and show videos of his amazing techniques and host a hands-on workshop for composites.

We hope that this will draw in therapists and dentists alike as his courses are very highly sought after.

This will require a separate booking so check on the website so tell your dentists about it too.

Booking is now open on the BADT website for the conference: www.badt.org.uk.

The code for securing a discount at the Hilton is  'GBADT' and the telephone number is 0870 590 9090.
