Dentist to undertake gruelling charity challenge

Over the past few years Mark Ray, partner of Ravat & Ray Dental Care, has undertaken a number of bike riding challenges for many worthwhile local causes.

This year, Mark is aiming to cycle 150 miles in just one day.

He will complete the cycling element of the Ironman challenge, plus more, around the outskirts of Bolton on Monday 4 August.

This will comprise of three, brutal 50-mile sections and an immense 12,498 foot climb over the course loops.

The tour will start and finish at the Rivington Lower Barn, Rivington, Bolton.

Mark and his partner in crime, Andy Wilshire, will start the cycle ride around 8am.

The Ironman challenge is normally one loop on one day, however Mark is determined to do the three loops in just one day.

Mark is keen to give back to the people of Bolton and has decided that the recipient of this year’s challenge will be As-Suffa Institute Homeless Outreach Bolton.

The institute has established itself as a means of positive change for numerous individuals, families and communities through the implementation of various schemes and projects, and its ambitions are ever growing.

To date, it has provided more than 5,000 meals.

The As-Suffa Institute is ambitiously expanding its operations to include many areas around the UK, including Bolton.

Mark and Andy are hoping that staff and the dental community will come and support them along the route to cheer him on.

If you cannot make it but you would still like to sponsor Mark you can check out his Justgiving page; www.justgiving.com/Mark-Ray14/.

Mark is aiming to raise a massive £2,500 to help the Bolton Outreach programme to continue the vital work it does and move forward with its ambitions to open a food bank within the Bolton region.
