Flying the chequered flag for the dental trade

First to the finish line was a team from A-Dec, who completed 135 laps

On Saturday 29 June, the legendary Grand Prix Karting centre at Birmingham Wheels Park played host to the BDTA’s annual social networking event, which attracted several member companies who were keen to put their racing skills to the test.

The networking day, which is designed to widen engagement within member organisations and has proved to be popular both with motorsport enthusiasts in the dental trade and those with a bit of a competitive streak, returned to the high profile Birmingham venue, where the 2011 event took place.

With the British sun in attendance for the day, the delegates arrived at the venue and were able to complete a few practice laps and a qualifying session on a dry, rain-free racetrack. A gruelling 2-hour endurance race followed, which fully tested the drivers’ capabilities as they sped round the circuit.

First to the finish line was a team from A-Dec, who completed 135 laps, the fastest of which was undertaken in an impressive 49.166 seconds. Finishing in second place was the team from Takara Belmont, who managed 134 laps and had a best time of 50.201 seconds, and in third were A-Dec’s second team, who achieved 133 laps in the given time, with a best time of 49.997 seconds. The three winning teams took to the podium to celebrate their triumph with a bottle of bubbly, rounding off a wholly enjoyable day.

Executive director at the BDTA, Tony Reed, said: 'It is important for social networking events like these to take place as they create opportunities for members to come together at an informal, but useful day. It was, as usual, a pleasure, and I would like to thank all who participated.
