Dental care professional registration and the next steps for the fully registered team will be the focus of the General Dental Council (GDC) at this year's British Dental Association annual conference.

‘DCP registration – moving forward' will emphasise the need for dental nurses and technicians to register with the GDC before the 30 July deadline.

This session will also explore standards, the scope of practice of the dental team and fitness to practise issues.

A seminar entitled ‘Now you are a registered professional – compulsory CPD for DCPs will outline the requirements of CPD for dental care professionals and explore ways that verifiable and general CPD, which will be compulsory from 1 August this year, can be achieved.

For dental nurses and technicians who have not yet signed up, a ‘registration surgery' will be available at the GDC exhibition stand with advisers on hand to check application forms and answer questions on the registration process.

Completed forms can be handed in for processing, and forms and accompanying documents may be submitted by the colleagues of those who cannot attend the conference themselves.

Dental nurses and technicians who would like to submit applications at the ‘surgery' must take certified copies of all the relevant supporting documents, including proof of identity, as original documents will not be accepted on the day.

The BDA conference takes place 1-3 May and the GDC stand is C41-C42.

For information call 0845 222 4141, email GDCregistration@gdc-uk.org or visit www.gdc-uk.org.

Sounds as if there might be just a few nurses and technicians who aren't going to be registered by the deadline. With morale being so high with nGDS, clawback, many labs in dire straights etc, now might not be exactly the 'ideal time' for the GDC to try to get 'heavy' with the frontline footsoldiers. Or will they try 'pour encourager les autres'?!
