This National Smile Month, award-winning dental practice, Elleven, is launching a campaign to offer one lucky patient a winning smile

A team at a London practice wants to extend their smile makeover service to one individual who needs it most – free of charge.

Elleven, located in the heart of London’s West End, has launched the National Smile Traansformation to coincide with the British Dental Health Foundation’s National Smile Month.

Dr Sameer Patel, clinical director at Elleven explains: ‘Our team shares an inherent desire to apply our skills for the benefit of those who need it most, and this drives us to do charity dental work year after year. Too often we see people who are living in dental pain, with a smile they desperately try to hide and no way of funding the treatment to make it better.  The National Smile Transformation is our way to reach out to someone and to change the way they see themselves.’

After 20 June (the official end of National Smile month), the team at Elleven will choose the 11 finalists and announce these on their Facebook page – www.facebook.com/ellevendental on 11 July, including a photo and the story behind the smile for each person.  There will then be a chance for the public to vote on who they would like to win (until 11 August). After that date, the top five will all be invited for a full clinical check at Elleven, before being judged by the expert panel and the winner selected in early September.
The panel includes Dr Shivani Patel, Clinical and Award Winning Orthodontist at Elleven, Professor Tim Newton, Professor of Psychology as Applied to Dentistry at King's College London Dental Institute and Lewis Moody, former England rugby captain.

Lewis says: 'After a long career in professional rugby, I am only too aware of the impact of having your teeth knocked out!  Pain aside, for me the time I spent with gaps in my smile made me feel really self conscious – but I was one of the lucky ones with a dentist to put it right.  There are lots of people out there, whether through illness or sporting injury who are living in dental pain and with a smile they are desperate to hide because they cannot afford the treatment. I'm delighted to be part of the National Smile Transformation as part of their judging panel and am grateful that we are able to put a smile back on someone's face.'

Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, says: ‘I’m delighted that Elleven has joined the many schools, workplaces, health professionals and dental practices in engaging with National Smile Month.  It is a great reflection of local community spirit and an excellent way to promote good oral health.’
