Teams ‘wowed’ at Dentistry LIVE

Dentistry LIVE impressed delegates over two days last week (7-8 June) as dental teams merged on London to hear from dentistry's leading speakers

FMC, who brought together some of the leading speakers from around the globe welcomed the crowds at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, one of London's most luxurious and beautifully situated conference centre, right next to Westminster Abbey.

FMC’s CEO, Ken Finlayson, said: 'Dentistry LIVE was a fantastic success with plenty of teams attending. Over the two days, we covered almost every key facet of general practice. The attendee ratings were the best we've ever had.

Hot cakes

‘Added to that, our new 'CPD Pass' concept that allows unlimited seminar attendance over a year for one cost, was a massive success with it literally selling like hot cakes. Next year (13-14 June), we have a new theme 'the UK's Premier General Practice Conference' and promise a bigger and higher calibre programme than ever, coupled with a vast range of live demonstrations and hands-on sessions.’

Highlights included the humorous but enlightening presentations by Gary Zelesky, the heart-wrenching story of surviving oral cancer by Eva Grayzel who has her audience in tears, and inspirational ‘fit’ dentist Uche Odiatu who had his audience up and exercising and taking hope keep tips to keep fit.

Once again, business gurus Chris Barrow and Les Jones pulled in the crowds in their separate presentations while Nasser Barghi proved popular as he addressed the topic of all-ceramic restorations.

‘Team’ speakers Mikey Bateman, of Aberdeen award-winning dental practice, Fergus & Glover, shared secrets of its success and brief solution-focused hypnotist and psychotherapist, Anthony Asquith, revealed the best approach to team and patient relationships in his presentation that focused upon DISC personality profiling.

Anthony said: ‘Dentistry Live was a fulfilling and fun experience and meeting with Gary Zelesky and hearing Chris Barrow talk on the ‘sweet spot’ really made my day!’

Dental hygienist and therapist Mel Prebble, from Abbey Road Dental, London, and an NLP practitioner presented as part of the Dental Hygiene & Therapy track. She said: ‘Dentistry live offers current, national and international speakers and gives dental teams a chance to network and expand their skills. The Dental Hygiene and Therapy programme is the most relevant and up to date programme I have experienced this year.

Reignite

She added: ‘I came away from Dentistry LIVE feeling motivated and inspired with some excellent new insights in to current trends in dentistry.’

Former CDO of Wales, Paul Langmaid, was equally inspired, saying: ‘Dentistry Live 2013 exceeded my expectations by a country mile – great location and programme of interest to all dental professionals. With my interests in dental public health, I was drawn to the 'team’ theme but topped up my essential CPD between presentations.

‘Too many good speakers to mention individually but worth attending just to get one’s passion for anything dental reignited by Gary Zelesky – twice!’

Practice manager, Ros Illes, was there to pick up tips as her practice – Heath Dental in Solihull – is looking to ‘change the way our hygiene department works’.

She said: ‘I’ll be taking away a lot from these seminars and putting them into practice.’

Principal dentist, Paul Trevisan, has just set up a squat practice – Ciao Paolo Dental in Glasgow.

He said: ‘My small practice is very much focused on oral health and Dentistry LIVE was the perfect place to pick up some tips and hear from some leading speakers.’

And dental hygienist Tim Ives was equally enthusiastic.

He said: ‘The QE2 Centre in London has to be one if the best situated venues for conferences with Westminster Abbey outside the front door and the Houses of Parliament out the back. The catering was fine and there was ample opportunity to get a variety of drinks. I have attended Dentistry LIVE for a few years now as a speaker and a listener and can honestly say it is constantly improving with respect to speaker profiles and diversity of subjects. This is demonstrated by the afternoon sessions I attended.

'At one end of the spectrum Rahul Doshi ably assisted by Mhari Coxon gave a fascinating interactive role-play talk on communicating to patients to improve case acceptance. I followed this with the best speaker on medical emergencies I have listened to. Dr Joe Omar turned a very heavy and dry subject into something light, interesting and practical. Next year’s dates are in my diary for next year. Perhaps I'll make the champagne party on the Friday night next time.’

Offering 16 hours CPD and with core subjects covered this year with the CPD Essentials track, it meant the whole year’s CPD requirement was covered across the two days.

Ken Finlayson added: ‘Dentistry LVE isn't just a CPD event; it's for the very best in UK dentistry. You can pre-book your place now for an early bird cost just call  0800 371 652 or email info@dentistrylive.co.uk.
