New initiative launched to mark World Oral Health Day 2013 today (20 March)
To mark World Oral Health Day 2013 today (20 March) organised by the FDI World Dental Federation, the Wrigley Oral Healthcare Programme is launching the first of a new series of free web-based continuing professional development sessions designed for dental professionals.
The new CPD series is based on the recently released book, Saliva and Oral Health, Fourth Edition (by Michael Edgar, Colin Dawes and Denis O’Mullane, December 2012) and it has been created in partnership with Stephen Hancocks Ltd.
The Saliva and Oral Health book is an up-to-date guide on saliva, its evolving role and the secrets it is still revealing in relation to oral health.
The CPD sessions bring the very latest research around saliva and its many positive functions to the dental community, through four sessions spanning the eight chapters of the book.
The first of these will cover the anatomy and physiology of saliva and the mechanisms of salivary secretion. Topics such as xerostomia, salivary clearance and the protective functions of saliva will also be covered in the series.
Louisa Rowntree, Wrigley Oral Healthcare Programme manager in the UK said: ‘I am delighted to announce the launch of this new CPD series on World Oral Health Day – an occasion which is entirely relevant for our commitment to improving oral health in the UK.
‘The clinical research that supports the oral health benefits of chewing sugarfree gum is at the heart of the Wrigley Oral Healthcare Programme. We want to support dental professionals in their role as oral care educators, giving them the knowledge they need about the benefits of chewing sugarfree gum to pass onto their patients. This CPD series is a further step in providing them with this knowledge, based on a new edition of an authoritative and well respected book and working in partnership with Stephen Hancocks.’
