The General Dental Council introduces compulsory continuing professional development (CPD) for all dental care professionals in August.
Its aim is to ensure that team members maintain professional knowledge and competence to give patients the best possible treatment and care. From August, all team members must prove on a regular basis that they are fit to remain on the GDC’s registers. DCPs that fail to comply with the new system risk being struck off. Team members are required to collect 10 hours of verifiable CPD annually or 50 over a 5 year cycle.
Following on from the success of Preventive Dentistry, dental communications company FMC are set to launch a new journal in August for DCPs called CPD in Practice Team Edition. This annual publication provides a quick and easy way for DCP’s to earn 10 verifiable CPD hours in one go, satisfying the GDC’s annual requirement.
With Team Edition, the process of claiming verifiable CPD hours couldn’t be easier. Simply read the articles, complete the questionnaire in the journal or online and collect your certificate. In accordance with GDC guidelines, CPD in Practice Team Edition includes compulsory subjects, medical emergencies, disinfection & decontamination, radiography & radiation protection.
