Dental care professionals: maximise your mouse!

Recording continuing professional development hours is getting easier thanks to a new section on the General Dental Council’s website.

GDC registrants can use the online facility to track and record CPD hours over their five-year cycle. The site shows how many hours they have to complete, and re-calculates this when further hours are added.

All registrants can use the facility but dental care professionals who registered on or before 31 July 2008 must submit their annual return by the end of September. They will get a letter in the coming weeks with instructions on how to can log on to the eGDC website and fill in their annual CPD hours electronically. The envelope will also contain their Annual Practising Certificate and a return form which they may choose to fill out instead of using the online facility.

Sarah Arnold, GDC registration development manager, said: ‘Keeping up to date is a fundamental requirement of GDC registration. But we realise that it’s not always easy for busy dental professionals to keep track of all their activities. The idea of the new part of the eGDC website is to help people get organised. Visitors to the British Dental Association Conference in Glasgow had the chance to test-drive it. We also consulted the Dental Technologists Association and it was discussed by our Registration Committee, which has representatives from different registrant groups. We hope that we’ve come up with something registrants will find useful.’

The website address is www.eGDC-uk.org.
