The BDTA Dental Showcase is the venue for Dentaid’s launch of its new fundraising appeal which aims to stage one charity event for every day of 2010.
Diane Platt, the charity’s head of fundraising, explained: ‘It is very simple. We are asking our supporters to pick one date on the calendar and commit to do something to raise money for Dentaid.
‘The idea is that we will have 365 events happening all over the country throughout the year, from coffee mornings to trekking in Vietnam.’
Dentaid works around the globe, providing care for poorer areas in the hope of improving the world’s oral health.
Its mission is to improve the oral health of disadvantaged communities, largely in the developing world.
Traditionally, the organisation has achieved this by taking redundant equipment – donated by UK dentists – refurbishing it and sending it out to countries that are severely lacking in resources and have requested help.
The strategy has been a major success, with more than 200 surgeries being sent out to around 50 countries over the years.
Dentaid will be at stand G01 where the team hopes to start filling dates in their 2010 ‘365 appeal’ planner.
