Have your say on the future of dentistry

The General Dental Council (GDC) is getting ready to listen to dental professionals working in and around Cardiff.

A free event is being held on 25 May at St David’s Hotel, with places being booked up fast.

Just over 40 spaces remain and anyone interested in coming along is being urged to move quickly to reserve their spot by booking online at www.gdc-uk.org.

The evening event begins at 6pm and attendees can claim 2 hours of verifiable CPD for taking part in one of two workshops on offer:

Standards workshop This will focus on the GDC’s ongoing work to revise its ‘Standards for Dental Professionals’. Participants will be expected to actively contribute to this project.

Your responsibilities as a registered dental professional This will explore what it means to be a registered dental professional and will give an insight into the work of a GDC caseworker and Investigating Committee member.

Acting Chief Dental Officer for Wales and affiliate (non-voting) member of the GDC, David Thomas said: ‘This GDC event in Cardiff is a valuable opportunity for registrants from across Wales to speak directly to their professional regulator. The GDC’s current review of its Standards for dental professionals as well as Scope of Practice documents, are just two areas on which the GDC is keen to hear from registrants.

‘I would encourage anyone working in dentistry to come and have their say.’

This is the latest in a series of events which have taken place in Belfast, Edinburgh and Birmingham.

Dental nurse, Angela McCulloch, was at the event in March in Scotland and said: ‘It let me hear lots of different views and I have learnt more about the GDC.’

Registrants unable to attend can still contribute to the Standards review. More details are available on the GDC website.
