The Oral-B Triumph 5,000 toothbrush was recently ranked the number one power toothbrush by The Gadget Show.
The products were tested under the supervision of Dr Uchenna Okoye, the dentist who does the ‘teeth makeovers’ on TV’s 10 Years Younger.
Dr Okoye praised the effectiveness of the Oral-B 5,000 and made it her top recommendation.
So, what is it that makes it so good?
Well, as well as being extremely efficient at removing plaque it also tackles the issue of compliance.
The key to compliance is communication and that’s why this ingenious model has various functions to help motivate patients to brush for longer, without applying too much pressure.
A visible pressure indicator on the reverse of the handle lights up when too much force is applied, and an override mechanism within the unit automatically reduces the brushing speed and stops the pulsating motion of the brush. To coincide with this, an icon on the SmartGuide (the wireless LED remote device) alerts the patient that they’re brushing too hard.
The unit also alerts users when they’ve completed two minutes brushing and for those who are extra diligent, displays a ‘three minute reward’.
To ensure users pay equal attention to all areas of their mouth, the Triumph 5000 incorporates an audible timer which beeps after 30 seconds, alerting the user that’s it’s time to focus on the next quadrant.
The concept of cleaning by quadrant is further reinforced by a star reward function on the SmartGuide that gets filled in every 30 seconds, so patients can see for how much longer they must clean their teeth.
Furthermore, on the front face of the handle there’s a convenient LED display that indicates whether the brush is fully charged.
