Getting to know Sheila

Business of Dentistry Events have lined up another fantastic event, with Sheila Scott and Michael Bentley set to take to the stage to deliver ‘The Perfect Patient Journey’ in Manchester and West Sussex later this year.

The events will support practices in taking a step back from the patient journey to identify areas for improvement, enabling practices to give their patients the dental experience they deserve, helping to maximise patient retention and boost referrals to attract new patients.

Sheila will be delivering the morning session of this information-packed event and will support attendees in identifying what matters most to their patients, finding out how to deliver great value for money, how to ensure patient books are kept full and how to encourage patients to come back regularly.

Having worked as business consultant supporting dental practices for over 25 years, Sheila is no stranger to the industry. As a no-nonsense, matter-of-fact-talking business speaker, Sheila is not someone you’d forget easily. But in case you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her, we’ve asked her a few questions to help you get to know her better…

How would people who know you describe you?

Straight-talking with lots of knowledge about what works and what doesn’t work for dental practices. Someone who is keen to get the team ready to action agreed changes (plans are no use to anybody unless we’re ready to do something different).

What will you be presenting about?

Understanding patients, including what they want and what they value. Organising and talking about care in patients’ language and in ways we know will appeal to them. Remember, it’s the patient journey, not the practice journey; not the team journey, the patient journey! We need to focus on patients, how they think, how they judge the team and the practice, what their suspicions are and how we allay them, what their needs are and how we respond and give clarity, certainty and comfort.

Who should attend this event?

The whole team should! Especially principals, treatment coordinators and practice managers. Don’t forget your hygienist!

What can people expect from the day?
You should walk away with loads of great ideas that can be put into the practice straight away; you will have new and creative ways of thinking about how the team can do things to impress and comfort patients. Attendees will also be forced to think like a patient and identify how the practice feels and looks to the patient. You will also walk away with tips and strategies for attracting patients and keeping patients in the practice, protecting and preserving the only thing that matters – patient love and loyalty.

You can also expect a lot of entertainment – you certainly won’t be bored! Michael Bentley, who will be presenting the afternoon session, is also straight-talking and passionate about getting the patient experience right. Both Michael and I have a lot of energy and passion for what we are talking about, and that will show throughout our presentations. You can also expect to have blunt pencils if you write everything down, but don’t worry; we’ll email you the presentations too!

And when you're not presenting, where would we find you?

As I write this – by the pool on holiday. Usually I’m on the road (away from home for at least two nights a week) visiting clients and helping individual practices to become more patient focused, more successful and profitable and better at working together. Then you’ll find me at airports waiting for the early or late flight and then home to the lovely house I built with my partner (A.K.A ‘the gorgeous one’) in Scotland. Most of the time I’m longing for the next bike ride – I’m a road biker and do 40 miles every Sunday morning (except when injured!) and more whenever I can.

Sheila and Michael will be presenting on 26th September in West Sussex and 24th October in Manchester. For more information, or to book your places, please contact a member of the Business of Dentistry Events Team by calling 0845 003 0048 or visit www.bodhub.co.uk/events
