Funding breakthrough for student loans

Until recently, student loans have only been available to full-time students, or for those on part-time courses lasting for two years or more.

In an attempt to arrest the decline in part-time students, the Government has now announced that student loans are being made available to all students based in England taking one-year part-time courses that, on successful completion, earn 60 credits.

This change means that the university accredited, professional certificate in dental practice management, one-year course, offered by The Dentistry Business, has now become eligible for student loan funding.

Sim Goldblum, a partner in The Dentistry Business, welcomed the change in funding and commented: 'A university-level qualification enhances the working and personal lives of our students and confers a real sense of achievement to people for whom “university” often means “elitism” and “out-of-reach”.

'This change will further help elevate the role of practice manager to a professional level that matches the needs of the practice owner and the expectations of the GDC (General Dental Council) and CQC (Care Quality Commission).'

The Dentistry Business course aims to enable practice managers to gain access to a work-based, university-level qualification, and defer as much as 60% of the course fees until the course has been completed.
