Laboratory Awards 2014 – S4S triumphs!

winner s4sOn a great night the 2014 Laboratory Awards recognised the best of the laboratory profession and trade, with S4S UK taking the top prize.

The Laboratory Awards 2014 took place late last year at the Radisson Blu Hotel Portman Square, welcoming almost 200 members of the laboratory trade and profession on a night to celebrate achievements over the previous 12 months.

Introducing the awards, FMC’s head of events Leanna Ellis said, ’The amount of high quality entries received for the Laboratory Awards was fantastic, providing encouragement and inspiration for patients and professionals alike, who can only benefit from the efforts of our finalists.’

Before the awards started, the audience heard from Steven Campbell of Ambridge Ceramics, representing event partner the British Bitemark / Dental Laboratories Association (DLA). He told the room about Forever Stars, the event’s charity partner, which was set up the DLA’s Richard Daniels and his wife Michelle, to raise money for the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. A charity raffle raised over £700 on the night for this worthy cause. Please visit www.foreverstars.org for more information.

S4S UK was the night’s big winner, taking the overall Laboratory of the year prize, as well as winning two other categories – Best Dental Laboratory South, Most Innovative Laboratory – as well as being highly commended in the Best Team category. Commercial director Neil Bullement and technical director Matt Everatt were on hand with their partners to collect the awards.

‘What an amazing achievement to win an award let alone win three!’ commented Matt Everatt. ‘We were so thrilled to win Best Dental Laboratory – North, winning the Most Innovative Laboratory was incredible. We then got called up on stage to collect the Highly Commended prize for Best Team. Before we had chance to sit back down, Julian English Editor for the Dentistry and Laboratory Magazine announced that we had won the most prestigious Judges Award, Best Overall UK Dental Laboratory. We were simply blown away!’

At the end of the evening two awards were made to individual who have each made a special contribution. The first was presented by FMC managing director Jason Newington to Tony Knight, of Knight Dental Designs. Tony is a well-know and well liked figure in the laboratory profession, having written and lectured widely. Having won many awards in the past he is now a member of the judging panel for the Laboratory Awards

‘This is a total shock, but it’s fantastic,’ said Tony following the presentation. ‘I was lost for words up on the stage! I no idea it was coming but it is a great honour. It’s also great to see lots of good labs winning awards – there were so many fantastic entries this year, every year the event gets bigger and better, each award was really well deserved.

The final prize of the evening was for Outstanding Contribution to British Dental Technology, awarded to Skillbond CEO Andrew Goodall, with Steven Campbell returning to the stage to make the presentation.
