Professor Paul Coulthard appointed dean at Queen Mary University

Professor Paul Coulthard has been appointed as dean for dentistry at the Queen Mary University of London.

He will be moving from his position as head of the school of medical sciences at the University of Manchester.

Professor Coulthard is also a consultant in oral surgery at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

‘The Institute of Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London has an impressive history and strong reputation and provides a really exciting opportunity to build on existing achievements fostering excellence, innovation and a global reputation,’ Professor Paul Coulthard said.

Professor Coulthard has published more than 180 scientific articles about postoperative pain management and oral and maxillofacial surgery issues.

He is particularly passionate about evidence-based practice and will be teaching this concept to his students.

He has also chaired several recent committees for NHS England that have published reports changing the delivery of clinical care in England.

‘We’re delighted that Professor Paul Coulthard will be joining us as our new dean for dentistry,’ Professor Steve Thornton, vice-principal (health) and executive dean at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry said.

‘He brings with him a considerable amount of leadership experience and an impressive track record of research and education, and I know he will make significant contributions to our continued success and development.’
