Success comes ‘Isy’ at Biohorizons course

‘Cerec made Isy’, a Biohorizons course held over two days in June and spearheaded by Dr Carlos Repullo, proved to be a resounding success with delegates.

As an attendee dentist, Dr Orry Torsney from The James Clinic, said: ‘I thoroughly enjoyed the course with Dr Repullo. He showed us how to make restoring implants really easy with the Cerec machine. I picked up so much information about things I’ve struggled with over the last few months. Everything was just made so simple and taught in a very clear way. Thanks, Carlos and Biohorizons.’

Dr Repullo, a certified Cerec trainer and graduate of the Sirona Speaker Academy, currently practices in Seville, Spain and has expert knowledge and 18 years’ dental implant experience.

Getting started

Sharing these skills with the participants, Dr Repullo kicked off the weekend’s programme with an introduction to using Cerec for implant restorations. Next on the day’s agenda, he reviewed taking both direct and indirect digital impressions and using the Ti-base/Scanpost system to produce Ti-base restorations. He then went on to discuss the various materials available to dentists, followed by a fascinating insight into soft tissue moulding.

Bringing this all together, Dr Repullo shared with delegates his revelatory ‘five-step’ technique to designing implant restorations. And it didn’t stop there! Before a short break, a digitally-assisted protocol (DAP) for dental implants was discussed, as was the abutment characterisation technique.

The rest of the first day focused on providing delegates with first-class hands-on experience, to shore up everything they had been taught about earlier.

‘This was a winning combination,’ as explained by Dr Regina Flanagan of Ratoath Dental Centre. ‘What a fantastic weekend. With plenty of hands-on experience, I learned a lot about the Isy system and immediate implant placement. I hope to use what I’ve learned to help trauma patients when I get back to practice. Training with Carlos was so enjoyable.’

Live treatment

On day two, delegates had the opportunity to practise live patient treatment – an element that will prove to be invaluable for the dentists back in their practices.

On this, Dr Jim Hurson from Crescent Dental Health said: ‘I really enjoyed the day. I’ve seen Carlos’ work before and always admired it. But the information he gave us during the day was just unbelievable. The tips that I’ve picked up, the ideas to move forward with – this whole idea about minimally invasive treatment was exceptional. He showed us how to create what I consider to be the best, most life-like work that I have seen. It was so lovely to witness and easier than I thought it would be to achieve. A thoroughly enjoyable day with great company and I’d recommend it to anyone.’

Delegates have now returned to their practices to put what they have learned into action, with not only an understanding of the digital workflow and procedures in implant dentistry, but also knowing how to carry out completely digital dental implant treatment, from the initial planning to the final restoration. Equipped with new treatment protocols to garner maximum benefit of the Cerec system and an update in materials and techniques related to CAD/CAM and implant dentistry, these dentists are ready for their next step in implant dentistry.

After all, with Cerec and Isy representing advanced technology available for use in digital dentistry today, this intensive two-day course enabled delegates to offer patients the best possible, cutting- edge implant dentistry.

Exploring Isy and Cerec

The Isy intelligent implant system from Camlog is the excellent partner for Cerec, providing dentists with the ultimate in digital dentistry.

Isy is a complete implant system with high primary stability and the ability to provide fully digitised restorations. This intelligent approach to workflow provides dentists with superior time and cost efficiencies.

With Cerec, the scan adapter and scan body are simply snapped onto the pre-mounted implant base; there is no need for a screwdriver. Some work steps are eliminated completely with Isy, whilst others are considerably simplified.

For ease of use, everything needed for single implant surgery is contained within the Isy set, including single-patient form drill, implant with pre-mounted base, two multi-functional caps, cover cap and gingiva former.

For more information on the Isy implant system, visit www.isy-implant.co.uk or contact the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor, Biohorizons on email [email protected] or call 01344 752560.
