FGDP(UK) publishes new member register

The Faculty of General Dental Practice UK (FGDP) has published a public register of its Full Members and Fellows

Full Members and Fellows of FGDP are entitled to use the respective designation MFGDP(UK) or FFGDP(UK), and the new member register provides validation of their post-nominals for patients, fellow dentists and prospective employers.

Those on the Register each have a unique profile page which specifies and explains their membership category, and can use the FGDP(UK) Member or FGDP(UK) Fellow logo on their practice website and personal online profiles in order to provide validation of their membership status, and to link through to the register.

This is a first step in the development of the Member Register, which is intended to evolve over time to promote reliable information on the professional standing and qualifications of dentists working in primary care.

To qualify for Full Membership, dentists must complete the Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties (MJDF) award or another postgraduate level qualification.

Commitment to professional development

Fellowship recognises excellence in delivering primary dental care, and requires an ongoing commitment to professional development and reflective practice. It is open to Full Members who can demonstrate a high degree of competence in clinical practice, leadership and management, teaching, research and/or law and ethics.

Dentists without a postgraduate qualification can join the faculty as Associate Members, and can demonstrate their membership by using the FGDP(UK) Associate logo in their personal and practice profiles.

Ian Mills, the faculty’s dean, said: ‘The publication of the FGDP(UK) Member Register is the latest development on our journey to elevate the standing of general dental practice and establish an independent College of General Dentistry.

‘By publicly identifying our Members’ commitment to high standards of clinical and professional practice, the register will support patients’ confidence in their dentist, and public confidence in the profession as a whole.’

‘I am delighted that we can now celebrate our Members’ achievements and commitment in this way, and encourage all those who share our values to join us.’
