A top cosmetic dentist and dental laboratory are helping to transform smiles on a Channel 5 TV show.

Dr Uchenna Okoye is the resident dental clinician on makeover show 10 Years Younger in 10 Days and worked with Knight Dental Design laboratory to create the stunning transformations.

One case study sees Dr Okoye fix the teeth of patient Amanda, a former police officer.

Her confidence had been knocked following an incident in the police force and a botched root canal.

As a result, Amanda, 41, spent years avoiding the dentist and said her teeth were a ‘big source’ of her lack of confidence.

Dr Okoye cleaned out the decay before fitting Amanda with a new bridge and veneers made by Knight Dental. Other smile makeovers in the series involve crowns, veneers and dentures.

Happy smiles

Speaking about the experience, Dr Uchenna Okoye said: ‘Filming Ten Years Younger was fun but great pressure.

‘The filming schedule is very tight and there is simply no time for reshoots. The filming of the reveal happens straight after the fit.

‘In this situation I need a cosmetic lab that delivers predictably great results every time.

‘Thankfully working with Tony and his team at Knight Dental frees me from the stress of worrying about the results. The patients were blown away by their smiles.’

Tony Knight, aesthetic dental technician and head of the technical team at Knight Dental, described the experience as emotional.

Very emotional

He said: ‘We do smile makeovers every day but the working time for the show was very short and the cases just have to be perfect first time.

‘Fortunately, we have some of the best ceramists in the industry so all went to plan. It was very emotional seeing the patient’s reactions. It’s what makes our job so special.

After seeing her transformed smile, Amanda broke down in tears and said it made her want to go out and show off her new look.

‘Wow, I just can’t believe what a difference my new smile makes. It really makes me feel ten years younger,’ she said.

The next episode of 10 Years Younger airs at 9pm on Thursday 19 March.
