Coronavirus – the view from Spain (day 19) – a focus on mental health

Tony Gedge give us his latest update from Spain on how the coronavirus is impacting him and dental practices around the world.

Spain is currently on lockdown, with people consequently only going out to shop or go to work.

Tony has therefore taken the time to update Dentistry.co.uk on the current position from Spain and give his thoughts on how dental practices should deal with the coronavirus.

Addiction

We’re in a different environment now so we have to think and feel differently, Tony says. He gives his story about his addiction to alcohol leading to his conversation with Alcoholics Anonymous. He was asked:

  1. Does it emotionally affect you?
  2. Does it physically affect you?
  3. And does it affect others around you?

British Dentist and Doctors Group is a confidential group set up to help dentists and doctors. This year Tony has made it his purpose to help the suffering alcoholics in dentistry.

‘If you’re suffering from addiction or mental health issues, it’s nothing to be ashamed of,’ Tony says.
