90 seconds during lockdown with…Yewande Oduwole

Today we hear from Yewande Oduwole, to find out what lockdown life is like for a dental graduate.

Yewande Oduwole, is in her final year at Peninsula Dental School. She is the winner of the inaugural Nik Pandya FGDP (UK) Dental Student of the Year Award. This award is named after the late board member and leading periodontistThe award highlights the exceptional achievements of BDS students. Yewande received it for her demonstrable passion for oral health and dentistry. Including mentoring prospective dental students and also online delivery of oral health advice to the public.

Yewande enjoys engaging in community outreach, focusing on oral health promotion in both schools and in her local community. She received a student scholarship from the Afro-Caribbean Dental Association in her third year of dental school. This then led to her embarking on a project in Ghana to provide free dental care and oral health education to communities, schools and orphanages.

In 2018 she won the Entrepreneurial Student of the Year award at the ‘Toothwise Future of Dentistry Awards’. Yewande won this for starting a threading business in dental school and then maintaining it over five years.

She is also a student representative for the BDA and BACD organisations. Her most recent Youtube video series involved bringing together 34 dental professionals to share their essential advice and tips to both dental students and young dentists.
