Online Dentistry Show: Elaine Halley – digital dentistry and Digital Smile Design

Coming this September, the Online Dentistry Show is putting on the very first virtual exhibition in UK dentistry with support from gold sponsors, Align Technology.

The first-of-its-kind event is coming on 4 and 5 of September. With a host of industry leaders and speakers, delegates can also get 12 hours of free enhanced CPD.

The event will allow delegates to walk through a virtual exhibition hall. Here, they can talk directly with suppliers via video link, audio or live chat.

Covering the GDC’s most pertinent recommended topics, it will also host leading speakers from around the profession.

And the entire event is completely free to attend. To register, simply visit onlinedentistryshow.vfairs.com/en.

Elaine Halley

Dr Halley will update delegates on the latest advances in the Digital Smile Design concept. She will also illustrate how to integrate the Invisalign system more easily, using a streamlined workflow.

The aim of her presentation is to show dentists how to take a less invasive approach. One that encourages the preservation of more tooth structure. Ultimately providing an improved patient outcome and experience.

Dr Elaine Halley says: ‘Prior to the Digital Smile Design/Align Technology partnership, doctors like me had been superimposing facially designed smiles over their Clincheck 3D animated treatment plans. There are no facial references in the software. Which meant that whilst it worked for planning orthodontic treatments, it was not ideal for the restorative dentistry component of the plan.’

She continues: ‘This exciting collaboration makes treatments much more predictable. It means restorative dentists can take a less invasive approach. This allows them to set an ideal pre-restorative scenario for each patient.

‘In practical terms, doctors can carry out digital design using DSD’s aesthetic, facially-driven smile design protocols, transfer the digital files to Align Technology to combine with its Invisalign treatment planning, and then map out every component of the orthodontic and restorative treatment right from the start.’

Dr Elaine Halley will also explain how digital dentistry is more pertinent than ever, especially post COVID-19. She will share how COVID-19 impacted her business and the changes she had to implement. This includes embracing virtual consults and other virtual tools, and managing fallow time. She will expand on how to develop treatment plans using digital tools and how to present treatment options in this new era.

The live lecture will take place on Saturday 5 September, from 09:30 to 10:30.

Why are you sponsoring the Online Dentistry Show?

Alongside the line up of leading speakers, the Online Dentistry Show includes a virtual exhibition for delegates to walk around and talk to experts about the latest innovations. Delegates can talk directly with suppliers via video link, audio or live chat.

They can also fill a ‘Delegate Pack’ with information and show offers from exhibitors. This is emailed out once the show has finished.

‘Many dentists now have scanners specifically to replace impression taking,’ Elaine Halley continues. ‘Adopting digital technology is clearly more than this.

‘If we take Itero for instance, it is relatively easy to understand how it can help. The technology is a key part of the whole patient journey. We can use it as an essential tool to communicate, motivate, diagnose and offer a minimally invasive approach.

‘Admittedly GDPs have to embrace the idea that the whole team needs to get involved. We can explain the challenges that digital technology brings, in the hope that delegates leave enthused and energised, and wanting to use their scanner beyond impression taking, day in day out.’
