Alex O’Neill

Alex O’Neill, CODE’s head of compliance, is one of the show’s speakers. He will deliver a lecture titled: ‘New compliance and COVID-19 – how to pass a post-pandemic inspection.’

‘Everyone has done an amazing job getting their practices reopened after lockdown. There has been a significant amount of information, in the form of guidance, coming at an incredible speed,’ he says.

‘Practices have had to absorb all this information and turn it into practical standard operating procedures (SOPs). Then train their teams in a very short time frame. Now that the dust has begun to settle on SOP creation and reopening of practices, it’s a good time to approach the topic of auditing.

‘The FGDP guidance “Implications of COVID-19 for the safe management of general dental practice: A practical guide” includes the requirement: “All staff need to understand the importance of following these guidelines and managers will be required to carry out regular audits to ensure compliance”.’

He added: ‘Additionally, guidance and regulations require that we audit our processes and procedures “to identify where action should be taken” and practices will be expected to audit their COVID-19 compliance.

‘The bottom line here is that there are strong indicators that the CQC and other regulators will be looking for an audit when they next look at practices.

‘CODE has created this audit for its members. I’ll share the thought process behind and the topics included in the document.’

The live lecture will take place on Friday 4 September, from 14:20 to 15:20.
