Shaking up oral health – with Andrew Scott

woman using Clinisept+ MouthwashAndrew Scott talks to us about the benefits of using Clinisept+ Mouthwash and why he recommends its use to patients.

How long have you been using Clinisept+ Mouthwash for?

I have been using Clinisept+ Mouthwash for about a year now.

I have been very pleased with it and it gives consistently good results. Patients have also been happy using it.

Do you use Clinisept+ Mouthwash on all patients in the surgery?

I have not been using it for every patient. I use it after surgical procedures to aid in soft tissue healing.

Do you only recommend it for patients undergoing a particular type of procedure or all your patients?

I recommend it pre- and post-operatively for surgical procedures to aid in soft tissue healing. It helps keep the area clean when we do not want patients to brush the area.

I will also use it during root treatments for decontamination of the canals.

What were the reasons you switched to using Clinisept+?

I switched to using Clinisept+ as there are potential side effects with people using other mouthwashes.

Clinisept+ causes no staining issues and is very effective at killing bacteria. It also has a mild, inoffensive taste and only requires a 30-second rinse. So patients are often more compliant with the rinsing.

How long do you recommend patients use Clinisept+ Mouthwash for?

Following a procedure I recommend patients use it twice a day (30 seconds) for two weeks.

How much of an impact do you feel it has had on your practice and patient outcomes?

I feel it has been of great benefit to our patients.

Patients have been pleased with the flavour of it. The packaging is good, coming with a small cap to provide a measure for the rinsing volume. Patients are also very compliant.

Further, it is reassuring that there is a reduced potential for allergic reactions and soft tissue healing is excellent.

Which benefits do you usually see, or do your patients report, when a patient uses Clinisept+ mouthwash verses other mouthwashes?

  • Improved oral hygiene
  • Accelerated recovery following treatment
  • Reduced incidence of infections/complications
  • Reduced patient discomfort
  • No teeth staining
  • Improved gum health
  • Better user compliance.

Are there any other benefits?

Reduced risk of allergic reaction is a major benefit.

The lack of staining is also great as it is sometimes very difficult to get rid of chlorhexidine staining completely.

The short rinsing time, great healing results and pleasant taste are also of great benefit to patients. All of which makes my life easier.

What are the main reason that you recommend the use of Clinisept+ Mouthwash to your patients?

Lack of tooth staining and great healing results of soft tissues.

How do you recommend Clinisept+ Mouthwash to your patients?

I give it to them as part of their protocol. Though I might start to sell it in practice as part of periodontal treatment.

Do you have any other comments regarding Clinisept+ Mouthwash?

I think we can use it in many other areas including endodontics, bone surgery and possibly also decontamination of dental implants with peri-implantitis.
