Pain-free anaesthesia in restorative dentistry

Rhona Eskander explains why she uses The Wand in her practice and why it’s particularly beneficial for restorative dentistry.

‘Patients are often phobic and that is frequently linked to fear of anaesthesia. I use The Wand as it works below the patient’s pain threshold, ensuring my patients have a positive experience whilst in the chair. I find it particularly useful for veneer cementation. Palatal injections are painful and impact the ability to review veneers without the lips being misaligned or the patient dribbling. Using The Wand removes this obstacle.’

Speaking to other users of The Wand, there’s a consistent phrase that they use to describe the product: ‘game-changing’. So, what are these changes and are they really that novel?

1. Saves chair time

The intraligamentary injection provides immediate onset of anaesthesia. This means there is no waiting time for the patient to go numb, and treatment can be started immediately. It allows for immediate smile line assessment, which saves additional appointments.

2. Uses less anaesthetic and fewer injection sites

The newly defined palatal blocks can replace six to seven infiltrations with one comfortable injection and one cartridge of local anesthetic, with no collateral numbness which enables immediate smile-line assessment.

3. No numb lips/cheeks

Patients will be able to leave the clinic and return to daily activities, work, meetings, without the numbness in the lips. Children and special care patients particularly hate the numbness feeling.

4. Less repetitive strain

The Wand reduces repetitive strain injury to the wrist and forearm as no thumb pressure is applied, in contrast to the grip on a traditional weighty syringe that requires an awkward position of the thumb and fingers.

5. Enables bi-rotational insertion technique

This eliminates needle deflection, reducing the incidence of missed ID blocks.

6. Painless experience

The Wand delivers the anaesthetic solution at a precise and consistent flow rate and pressure, below a patient’s pain threshold, which is almost impossible to replicate with a traditional hand syringe.

The Wand STA allows you to perform ALL traditional dental injections, with excellent patient comfort, compliance and experience. This could result in referrals, as patients will refer friends and family based on their own experience. Game-changing? Our customers think so.
